Shifters You supply a 5’ long cable with all of your shifters. What if I want to use a shorter or longer one?

We have found that the 5 foot cable is most suitable for the majority of the installations. However B&M does offer cables from 2’ to 12’ lengths which may be purchased separately. See listing in catalog.

Why do B&M automatic shifters have two park positions? This is to accommodate the longer shift detent found in GM applications needed to engage park in those vehicles.

Can I use a B&M Super Duty race cable with any B&M shifter? Yes, except for the Unimatic shifter & Bandit. After installing the shifter in my car it became hard to shift because the cable melted on the exhaust.

What should I do to keep it from happening again? Secure the cable as far away from the exhaust as possible using tie wraps. Also, fabricate a heat shield out of thin sheet metal and attach it to the exhaust pipe with muffler clamps to act as a heat shield.

Why do the ratchet shifters allow you to ratchet to neutral? All B&M shifters that could be used in a racing application allow the driver to get to neutral with one extra movement for safety reasons. For instance, a blown engine or driveline failure. You want to get to neutral without going through reverse.

What is the difference between the Super Duty Race cables supplied with the Pro Stick and Pro Ratchet versus the cable supplied with the other shifters? While standard cables are suitable for most street applications, race cables are designed to withstand the rigors of racing. Race cables have a heavier jacket and a more flexible core wire.

What is required to make a B&M shifter fit my factory console? The B&M console Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang shifters are a direct replacement for your factory console shifter. In some cases, minor modifications to your console are required. Normally the installation is quite simple and the finished result enhances the factory console.

Which shifter will fit my car? You list several but not list my specific car. When an exact vehicle and year are listed, that shifter was designed as a direct replacement for that vehicle. B&M console units can be installed in other consoles if the vehicle uses the same transmission.

However custom fabrication and modification will be necessary in most cases. Use the universal application shifters located on pages 4 through 6. Dimensions are shown on page 3 of the catalog.

I just bought a Powerglide Pro Ratchet and it ratchets five times from Low to Park, is this a three speed unit? GM transmissions, including the Powerglide, require the shifter to ratchet twice to properly engage Park.
All TH-400, 350, 700-R4, 200-4R, 200 and Powerglides have a longer throw into Park than other transmissions. This is why there are two Park positions on the B&M Pro Ratchet shifters.

Is the Bandit shifter compatible with any of the CO2 shifting kits? The B&M CO2 shifting system #80850 is compatible with the Bandit shifter. Just be sure to order the Bracket and Cylinder kit #80864 for the Bandit shifter.

I have a rear engine dragster and I want to route the shifter cable to the transmission lever from the front. Do you have any suggestions? Using B&M’s front entry Cable Extension & Quick Release Coupler Kit (80323 p.17) you can route the cable into the front of the Powerglide Transmission with either the B&M 80702 Pro Stick or Bandit 80754.

Detailed installation instructions for this type of application are available with the 80323, 80702 or 80754 shifters.
